ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing art which has helped literally billions of people and is now covered under your
MSP health plan!
It is an essentially painless technique which employes the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the body to manipulate flow of bio-energy (called qi) thereby restoring balance, removing blockages and adding energy where necessary.
Accupunture points, which lie on energy channels (meridians) are directly related to specific organs and physiological functions. This principle has been repeatedly confirmed by recent research in which obvious physiological changes were observed through the manipulation of specific acupunture points. Acupunture is part of a system of healing called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
What is TCM? Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic system for maintaining and promoting health. Its goal is to achieve internal balance between the mind, body and spirit, and an external balance with nature and our environment. TCM is the world's oldest continually practiced professional medicine. Its written history stretches back not less the 2,500 years and its pracitce is undoubtedly much older than that. It has a specific integtrated system of theory dealing with human physiology and pathology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
TCM has been created by some of the best educated and brightest scholars in Chinese history. These scholars recorded their theories and clinical experiences from generation to generation in thousands of books. It is estimated that there are between 30 - 40,000 books on Chinese medicine written before the turn of the century! Since then, thousands more books and articles have been published in professional journals; not only in China, but across Asia, Europe, and North America. Currently 1/4 of the worlds population makes use of TCM. One can only say that modern Western and Chinese medicines are the most dominant medical systems in the world today.

ADULT & EXECUTIVE WELLNESS

CANCER SCREENING & TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Our clinic provides Chronic Disease Management for all chronic illnesses including cancer. IHC provides the highest level of expertise in Naturopathic Oncology and Integrative Oncology in the country. Dr. Gurdev Parmar is the first and only naturopathic doctor to qualify as a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO) in Canada, working closely with oncologists over the past seven years. Dr. Johan Ghazali has also been working with cancer patients for the past seven years, starting his work at Vancouver's Center for Integrated Healing. Together they form a formidable team supprted by our medical doctors, chiropractor, massage therapists and counsellors.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer and second leading cause of death among Canadian women. But early screening and detection leads to a much better prognosis and life expectancy. We recommend our female patients play an active role in looking for signs for breast cancer. Our screening includes mammography, ultrasound and thermography as well as genetic and lifestyle precursors for the disease. Screening involves a full physical exam, a breast exam and extensive laboratory testing that determines modifiable bio-markers as well as genetic markers. We also provide twice-annual thermography clinics (which uses no radiation).
Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men. If you are over the age of 40, its a good idea to evaluate your risk factors. As with all cancers, early screening and detection lead to better prognosis and life expectancy. Our Prostate cancer screen involves a full physical exam, a digital rectal exam, PSA Ratio test, as well as an extensive range of laboratory testing that determines modifiable bio-markers as well as genetic markers.

CHELATION THERAPY
The goal of chelation therapy is to restore the health of arteries. This is accomplished through the removal of pathological heavy metals, dissolving atherosclerotic plaques and restoring normal blood flow to not only the heart but the entire vascular system. Millions of people take high blood pressure and anti-cholesterol medicine, undergo angioplasty or coronary artery bypass surgery and have persistent cardiovascular problems. Chelation is a safe and effective addition, and in some cases alternative, to the drugs and surgery used to treat the effects of athero/arteriosclerosis (hardening and/or blockage of the arteries).
Physicians across the globe have been prescribing and successfully treating coronary artery diseases with EDTA chelation for over fifty years. We find chelation therapy most effective when applied in a preventive approach, recognizing the role diet, exercise, lifestyle, behaviour and the environment play in heart disease. When compared to surgery or long-term drug therapy, chelation therapy is extremely cost effective.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Our chiropractic treatments range from the treatment of headaches and jaw pain to knee, back and foot pain. Many of our patients are treated for the management and prevention of either work, leisure or professional sports related injuries. We provide clinics on work and running - educating individuals on the biomechanics, related injuries and methods of injury prevention related to running and repetitive work duties. Our chiropractor, Dr. Brent Magowan also provides ergonomic advice to workers and their employers.
Dr. Magowan is a Certified Active Release Techniques (ART®) provider. ART is a soft tissue treatment system designed to remove small areas of scar tissue or "adhesions" that develop in various soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments or fascia) as a result of jumper's knee, patello-femoral pain, forzen shoulder, back and neck pain, headaches and whiplash - which can be successfully treated during ART. Results commonly include both decreased pain and improved function.

COLON HYDROTHERAPY
Integrated Health Clinic is one of the only clinics in western Canada to provide physician-supervised Colon Hydrotherapy. It is one of the most popular and well respected treatments in our clinic.
Colon hydrotherapy or "colonics" is a safe and effective method
of treatment for numerous conditions. The therapeutic goal is to balance body chemistry, eliminate waste and toxins, stimulate the immune system and restore proper tissue and organ function.
An average session lasts about one hour. A colonic cleanses the entire five-foot length of the colon, unlike an enema, which cleanses only 8 - 12 inches of sigmoid colon.
Colonics strengthen the muscular tone of the colon thereby establishing normal peristalis. By cleansing the colon, the body is able to assimilate certain food nutrients much more easily and rapidly.
Our colon hydrotherapists are certified, well trained professionals who work under the supervision of our physicians. Our colonics unit is considered the "Rolls Royce" of technology, is FDA approved, gravity fed, and not pressurized!

COUNSELLING & PSYCHOLOGY
For many of us, it's often more difficult to identify with needing a counsellor than a doctor, but IHC works from the perspective that emotional, spiritual and physical wellness all go hand in hand. We provide our patients with the best well-rounded preventive care possible and that includes a vehicle for mental wellness.

FERTILITY TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Dr. Karen Parmar is a partner in Integrated Health Clinic" and has over 7 years of practice experience. Although Dr. Parmar practices individual and family medicine, she has developed the specialty of providing successful outcomes to patients who are having difficulty starting a family. Her patients travel from all over the GVRD and FVRD to gain access to her highly acclaimed individualized infertility treatments.
Dr. Karen Parmar is the only Naturopathic Physician associate of The Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine (PCRM), one of Canada's foremost private IVF and Reproductive clinics. Dr. Parmar also recently travelled to San Diego, CA to the Bioidentical Hormone Society's Annual Convention to receive certification on Advanced Hormone Balancing. She is a physician member of the Infertilty Awareness Association of Canada (IAAC).

HORMONE BALANCING & MIDLIFE HEALTH
Integrated Health Clinic TM has female physicians who provide today's women with the specialized medical attention they want and need.
Although we provide in-depth health care services for women of all ages, many patients attend our clinic at midlife. During this phase of a women's life, patients can become disabled by symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, weight gain and incontinence. Women are also assessed for increased risks in osteoporosis and heart disease.

IV VITAMIN & B12 THERAPIES
Intravenous Vitamin Therapies have been used for over 25 years to help people boost or regain health and often provide hightly effective results which may not be found in other therapies.
Vitamin IV therapies or Intravenous Vitamin therapy is a means which a healthy and safe dose of natural vitamins and minerals are given to a patient intravenously through their circulatory system. This therapy bypasses gastrointestinal absorption and is able to achieve an extremely high blood concentration of nutrients beyond what is orally possible. W hen our cells are given the nutrients they need, they can stimulate the body's own healing systems by providing proper nutrition at that cellular level.

PEDIATRIC MEDICINE & WELL BABY EXAMS
Dr. Karen Parmar and Dr. Corrine Dawson have a special interest in pediatric medicine. Having young children themselves, they are very aware of the acute conditions and ailments that frequently arise during the childhood years. In addition to offering treatment for acute illnesses, Integrated Health Clinic offers a Well Baby Program for preventative pediatric health and wellness.
The Well Baby Program is designed to monitor growth patterns, assess developmental milestones and offer parents guidance and support in optimizing their child's health. It is designed to educate parent about breast feeding techniques and concerns, vaccination guidelines, infant food introduction, and toddler nutrition. Issues such as colic, constipation, recurrent ear infections, eczema, congestion, irritability, and insomnia (to name a few), are often prevented or at least minimized when preventative measures are taken. Well Baby Examinations are recommended at the following ages.

YOUTH CLINIC for PREVENTIVE HEALTH
Youth and Adolescents still remain a patient population with significant unmet needs. Many teens are seen as unwilling to participate in frank conversations with their physician, but we see them as uniquely fresh and less defensive than many adults.
Teens who come to our Wednesday night YOUTH CLINIC are greeted with enthusiastic and welcoming staff and physicians. Dr. Gurdev Parmar has many years of expertise working with youth and has a special interest in ensuring their individual health needs are met. The Youth Team is rounded out with counselling services provided by Rhonda Woodcock who has also specialized in teen care over the past 7 years.
