New Intravenous (IV) & Injection Therapies
The IHC is excited to introduce our new Intravenous (IV) & Injection Therapies line-up, which includes new formulations to target an even broader spectrum of conditions!
IV Therapy: The Basics
Intravenous (IV) therapy is a method of administering pharmaceutical grade nutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids) directly into the bloodstream. Way more than just a fad, this therapy has been around for decades for a reason.
When you infuse nutrients directly into the blood, you bypass the digestive system and can achieve blood concentrations beyond what is possible orally. The high concentration gradient then works to drive the nutrients into your cells, exactly where we want them.
Who’s It For
Everyone! Well beyond simply correcting nutritional deficiencies, IV therapy is indicated for a multitude of conditions and health concerns. Some of our favourite things to treat with IVs include colds and flus, low energy, allergies, malabsorptive disorders, inflammation, headaches, weight gain, insomnia, depression, and anxiety.
IV therapy isn’t only indicated for patients with current health issues. Many people value the preventative nature of receiving IVs and many athletes use IVs to sharpen their edge, improve stamina, and decrease downtime.
What To Know Before Coming In
Drink some water. The more hydrated you are, the easier it is to find a vein and the better you will tolerate the therapy. Focus on hydrating yourself for both the day before and the day of your treatment.
Have a snack. It’s important to keep your blood sugar levels steady so you feel comfortable during your treatment. Some vitamins and minerals have a blood sugar and/or blood pressure lowering effect, which can make your feel light headed or nauseous. Look something high in protein and fat.
Depending on the nature of your treatment, IVs generally run anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. You’re encouraged to bring a book, magazine, iPad, friend, etc. for entertainment, or you can take a refreshing nap. After a quick needle prick, there should be no discomfort for the duration of the treatment.
How To Get Started
If you’re not already an existing patient of the clinic, not to worry! You can still take advantage of our IV suite. Simply meet with one of our naturopathic doctors for a brief health screen. They will help select the correct formulation for you and answer any questions you may have.
