Microneedling

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a safe and effective minimally invasive skin treatment. This non-ablative procedure is performed using a device that contains fine needles to puncture the skin creating controlled damage in the superficial skin layers to initiate the body’s natural healing cascade.

In part, this cascade triggers production of collagen and elastin, resulting in improved skin texture and firmness. Because the treatment works with the body’s own healing potential, it is an optimal treatment for anyone who desires natural, gradual results.

Microneedling may be used to address a number of skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, scarring/acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, pore size, sun/photo damage, or uneven skin tone and texture.

How many treatments will I need?

Microneedling has cumulative benefits with the best results seen from a series of treatments. Depending on the goals of therapy, often 3-6 treatments may be recommended, typically 4 weeks apart, as initial therapy, followed by some level of maintenance. The number and frequency of treatments will be discussed with your doctor.

How long will the results last?

There are both short term and long term benefits to microneedling. The immediate results of skin resurfacing may be visible 5-7 days after treatment, with the long-term cumulative benefits of collagen stimulation being indefinite. The effects of microneedling can last as long as your body’s collagen innately lasts.

Is there any downtime?

The day of the procedure it is normal to have some redness and feel like a minor sunburn. This redness generally lasts for 24-48 hours. After several days it is normal to experience some light flaking and peeling, with skin returning back to normal 5-7 days later.
